New York, September 11th, 2001
911
We were in NYC two weeks after the terrorist attack and it
was still burning and the wounds were still fresh, very fresh.

Seeing soldiers in the streets of NYC was a clear indication that America
had changed.
Their uniforms mirrored the uniforms of the firefighters who lost their lives
trying to save people.

2 weeks after and there was still dust covering all of the
buildings and streets nearby.

Something in us wanted to see ground zero and we were not
alone. There were many others milling around looking in disbelief at the remains
of the tragedy. Below you can see the what was still left of one of the
towers.

One of the towers and the damage to the buildings around
it.

As night fell in Manhattan, the workers continued on
cleaning up the debris. It would take another 8 months to complete the task.
This was a terrible job and I appreciate those who were part of it.

From the Brooklyn Bridge you can see the constant column of
smoke from the still burning underground fire and the new skyline of New York
City.

The obvious symbol of Sept 11th is the buildings that were destroyed, but the
real tragedy was the loss of lives of the innocent people. It made me mad at the
way that hate always seems to take the lives of the innocent.
The story wasn't over yet, of course and many more people
would die in this, our new war.
