The US government apparently decided to put more than half of the atomic reactors in the world in one small area that also happens to be an active volcanic area.  Craters of the Moon is a National Park that is an example of an active volcanic area that erupts every 2000 years and the last time it erupted was, guess when.. yep, 2000 years ago.

We pulled into Atomic City pretty late after a long but great day on the road. Nothing was open. We mailed some Postcards from the post office, but they were franked at Pocatella :(

Jessica took this picture of me looking out over lava flows from the top of a cinder crater. Craters of the Moon NP is a great place to observe quite recent volcanic activity. It reminded us an awful lot of Iceland, which we had just visited last August.

Here we are in a cave that was originally a lava flow that has emptied out. There were a few of these and they were really big!
