Looking for Moose near Moosehead
Lake in Maine
We headed up for 4 days to Moosehead Lake
and the Northern Woods of Maine to see if we could see a moose.
As it turns out we saw about 22 of them!

This moose was drinking from a puddle about 10 feet from the car.
This moose posed for us in the lupines which lined some of the roads.

This was a pond that was close by and provided a good opportunity to see moose.
This moose was feeding from the bottom of the pond. It would immerse its head
completely.
Moose staring at the car
A young bull moose, just starting to grow its rack.
This Red-breasted Merganser had 16 (count them) 16 babies.
Love the lucky little one catching a ride on Mom.
There were 4 moose in this quarry area where the road crew stored their salt
during the winter.
The one kneeling was very young. The others were watching over it.
This is unusual as I have heard that bull moose do not hang out with others and
clearly there were some bulls in the group.

This is where we stayed. A nice cabin right on the lake in Rockwood with a view
of Mt Kineo.
White-tailed deer in the woods
Out of the corner of my eye I saw this deer swimming across the river.
We stopped and were able to get a few pictures before it made it into the woods.

We stopped at Lily Bay and took a few pictures of the whole gang.

Wild Irises
A porcupine dashing across the path in front of us.
Out for a walk in the 'beautiful' June weather. There were a few showery
moments.
A small forestry road off of Rt 15 near Rockwood
I believe that the left Killdeer is on the nest.
